Can you get a bank switching bonus more than once?
Plenty of people switch more than once. Whether you’ll get another bonus depends on the eligibility rules in each offer.
Often yes, but not always. Each bank decides who’s eligible. Common restrictions include having had a bonus from the same bank or banking group before, a time limit since your last bonus, or having held an account with that bank recently. Check the eligibility section of the offer’s terms before you switch.
Why the answer varies
There’s no industry-wide rule on repeat bonuses. The Current Account Switch Service moves your account, but each bank writes its own offer and decides who qualifies. Two offers in the same month can have completely different rules.
Common eligibility restrictions
- Previous bonus from the same bank. Some offers exclude anyone who has already had a switching bonus from that bank, sometimes ever, sometimes since a set date.
- Banking group rules. Several UK banks belong to a group with more than one brand. Offers may exclude you if you’ve had a bonus from any brand in the group.
- Existing or recent customers. Some offers are only for people who don’t already hold, or haven’t recently held, an account with that bank.
- One per person. Joint accounts and multiple accounts usually don’t mean multiple bonuses.
How to check before you switch
- Find the full terms for the offer, not just the summary on the landing page.
- Read the eligibility section for any mention of previous bonuses, dates or other brands.
- Check which group the bank belongs to, and whether you’ve had a bonus from any of its brands.
- If the wording is unclear, ask the bank before you switch. A switch is hard to undo.
Each switch needs its own Direct Debits
Every switch is a fresh switch. If the new offer needs Direct Debits, they need to be active on the account you’re switching from at the time of that switch, whatever happened last time.
Always check the current terms of your bank’s offer. Each bank sets its own rules, they change often, and a switching reward is never guaranteed.
